Beauty Basics 2013

It’s hard to keep up with all the beauty products that infiltrate the market. I have my usual beauty go-to’s (Tarte Primer, Bobbi Brown Eye Concealer, Dior Bronzer etc.), but once in a while I come across new products that completely blow my mind…

Revlon/Marchesa Nail Appliques
SO…I haven’t actually tried these yet, BUT, I might have to consider the whole nail art/sticker thing after seeing these Revlon/Marchesa nail appliques. When I heard about this collab I initially thought “Oh interesting…but I’m not convinced.” I totally took back that thought once I saw the images start to come out online. How fregin fab are these designs?!??!!!!?? I can’t wait to play around with these.

Dior Nail Cream
There’s no point in having a nice manicure if your nails (and cuticles) are dry, cracked and gross.
I used to carry around the Essie cuticle oil stick in my purse, but after a horrific spill, I had to find a better option; enter Dior’s Nail Cream.
A little bit of this goes a long way and keeps my cuticles pretty. The price is a little outrageous (for “nail” cream), but I’ll see how long it lasts me.

Nars Concealer Stick
I made the switchover to stick concealer back in March, and I originally started off using Bobbi Brown’s.
To be honest, there isn’t that much of a difference between the Nars Concealer Stick and the Bobbi Brown Stick.
I find the Nars one applies more smoothly, but I find that both finish relatively quickly. Regardless, it’s a great product and I’m almost done with my second Nars tube. I wear this in shade “Caramel”.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
For the past few years Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation has been the holy grail of foundations.
Although one of the more expensive foundations, I had to purchase it for myself to see if it was worth the hype.
I was using the Make Up For Ever HD Foundation prior to this (which is also great), but this is just one step up in terms of consistency, coverage and overall look. It really looks lovely once it settles into my skin after a few minutes. I wear this in #9.

Garnier Dark Spot Mask
Many of you think I have a flawless complexion from my pics but that is totally NOT the case. I have tons of spots on my face (mainly scars from picking), and every time they start to fade and disappear, I restart the cycle.
I saw this Garnier Dark Spot Mask on TV and purchased it out of boredom (since the drugstore is literally 8 steps from my door).
After the second time using it, I saw a huge improvement in my overall complexion. Did my spots disappear? No…BUT they didn’t appear as intense against the rest of me face. Overall, this a a great and easy product and you see and feel a difference right away.

GlamGlow BrightMud Eye Treatment
This is more of a short-term solution to a long-term problem — by short-term I mean it lasts about 2 hours.
Yes, I fall victim to under-eye bags, and no, there is no product that will actually miraculously remove them.
They were heavily promoting these GlamGlow BrightMud Eye Treatments during a recent trip to Sephora, so I thought why not try it. I noticed my bags appear a little lighter and my eye area look “more awake” after the first use, but the results only lasted a few hours. I have gone through about half the pack by now.
If I have an important event or meeting I will use it before, but the effects wear off after a few hours.

Cake Beauty Dry Shampoo
Although dry shampoo is more for greasy roots, I like to use this Cake Beauty One to refresh the smell of my hair (especially after a night out), or when I OD on hair oil/serum.
One thing I’ve noticed with dry shampoo is when you use too much, you f*ck up your whole do!!!!!! So use it sparingly so you don’t have to wash your hair and have to start over. Cake also makes a powder if you can’t get into the whole spray thing.

MAC Mineralize Rich Lipstick

Nude lips go with everything and it’s always difficult to find the perfect tone.
“Nude Beach” by Too Faced has always been my #1, but I’m now going to add MAC Mineralize Rich Lipstick in “Luxe Naturale” to that list as well.
It glides on easily and I just LOVE the color. I like to top it off with MAC’s C-Thru for a super-nude look.
